Pool Safety

Making a Splash

Pool safety for all campers is a top priority. Certified lifeguards supervise the pool, ensuring a 1:10 ratio for grades kindergarten through 3rd and a 1:20 ratio for 4th through 12th grade.

Each week on the first day of camp, campers are given a brief swimming test and are placed into one of the following categories:

Non-swimmer

Non-swimmers are campers who are not comfortable in the water without the aid of a flotation device (water wings, floaties, life jackets, etc.) and cannot leave the steps or wall of a pool. Non-swimmers may bring an approved alternate activity to the pool but must remain in the shade near the bleachers under supervision.

Beginner Swimmer

Beginner swimmers are campers who are more comfortable playing in the shallow end of the pool and often bob up and down vertically on their toes rather than swimming horizontally and do not require flotation devices to help them stay afloat. Beginner swimmers receive a waterproof wristband and must remain in the small, shallow pool during the swim period.

Intermediate Swimmer

Intermediate swimmers are campers who successfully pass the swim test at the beginning of the week can swim freely in the larger pool and are able to utilize the diving boards.

Please note, daily pool time is not a substitute for private swimming lessons. Parents are responsible for ensuring their children are comfortable swimming without the assistance of a flotation device.
